Color Pop!
is an application for your Android device (such as the T-Mobile G1). It allows you to selectively add and/or remove the color in photographs.  (See example in our logo above, where the lollipop is "color-popped" out of the photo.)  It supports color correction, up to 8x zoom, variable coloring tool size, and variable saturation while drawing so you can pull different levels of color out at different spots in your photos.

NEW: Version 1.0.6 now supports the trackball.

Basic Instructions

Select a photo. You will be asked to adjust the color of the photo. Once you have done that, the photo will appear with all of the color removed (i.e., in black and white).  You can then use the tool in "Pop" mode to re-instate the color to areas you want to highlight.

1. Pan the photo by dragging the image with your finger.
2. The tool starts in Move mode. Move the tool so that the white circle covers an area you want to color.
3. Switch to Pop mode, and move the tool to color in the area.
4. Hint: Panning is a useful way to quickly move to a new area of the photo without changing modes.

Description of Controls

The three modes at the top change what the tool does.

Move lets you move the tool without changing the photo.

Pop causes the tool to add the original color back to the photo.

Unpop causes the tool to remove any color you've re-added.

The drawer includes the following:

Zoom lets you zoom in on the photo to work on finer details.

Tool Size lets you change the size of the area affected by the tool.

Saturation lets you change how much of the original color that gets Popped in. Sliding it left pulls through pale color. Sliding it right pulls hyper-saturated color through.

The menu includes:

Save, which saves the photo and quits. (PLEASE NOTE: The demo version lacks this feature, but the paid version has it :-)

Switch Hands flips the tool so you can use your left hand easily.

Preview shows you a preview of the image by fitting it to your screen. Touch the screen to continue.

Fix Color returns you to the color adjustment screen. NOTE: Colors you've already popped will not be affected. You can re-pop them if that is your intent.

Fill in color fills in the entire image at the current saturation level.

Remove color changes the image back to complete greyscale.

Trackball Notes

The trackball moves the tool very slowly. The tool will continue using whichever of the three modes is selected (pop, unpop, or move). If you click the trackball, it will toggle you between Move mode, and whatever other mode you were in. If you started in Move mode, it will toggle you between Move and Pop. For example, if you are in Unpop mode, clicking the ball will change you to Move mode. Clicking again will return you to Pop mode.

Screen Shots with Overview

The following screen shots will give you a quick idea of how the application works.

Pop out larger swaths of color using a large tool at normal zoom.

Zoom in and/or change the tool size to work on finer details.

The menu includes extra features, like filling the entire image with color, or removing all color (to start over).

Switching hands allows you to work with your left hand easily in case you are left-handed or just to change the tool angle to get into a tight corner.

Demo Version

There is a free demo version on the Android Market (Color Pop! Demo). The demo version includes all of the features except save. This allows you to verify that the application works properly on your device, and does what you want before spending any money.
